Security Guard

Overview:
Responsible for providing physical security at Radford Army Ammunition Plant (ARA) in Radford, VA; respond to alarms and provide protection for ATK and the government from theft, fire, sabotage or unauthorized entry; responsible for planning and executing his/her work in a safe manner in accordance with the applicable safety rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Provide physical security for the Radford Army Ammunition Plant which might be susceptible to theft, fire, sabotage or unauthorized entry, responding as directed in the event of incidents affecting security integrity of facilities.

Patrol/protect facilities by foot and/or vehicle to detect or prevent illegal/unauthorized activities.

Provide security protection for all government property, classified material and personnel within assigned areas of responsibility to preclude unauthorized access, theft, or intentional destruction.

Report/respond to unusual or emergency situations, using the appropriate degree of physical force and/or weaponry as the situation dictates.

Be alert for potential security, property or safety concerns and initiate the appropriate actions.

Control ingress/egress into and/or out of posted/controlled/security areas.

Perform security duties as directed e.g., respond to situations that may require the use of physical and/or deadly force.

Perform security tasks to include but not limited to the enforcement of all applicable rules and regulations concerning: trespass or demonstrations, exclusion of prohibited articles and/or contraband.

Prevent/report all violations of security and safety rules and regulations.

Respond to protective alarm signals or other unusual/suspicious activities.

Maintain a working knowledge of all security and guard orders, written and oral, pertaining to the assigned duties.

Maintain proficiency with all assigned weapons by achieving the required qualifying scores in the designated courses of fire and the level of fitness required to safely pass annual qualification tests and carry out duties.

Remain proficient in the care, maintenance, operation, disassembly, and assembly of all duty weapons as applicable.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
*GED or High School Diploma
*Must be at least 21 years old and meet standards of the Gun Control Act of 1968.
*Must have United States Citizenship (if naturalized, then must provide original certificate for inspection and copying)
*Applicants under the age of 50 must run 1 mile in 12 minutes 30 seconds or less, do 20 sit-ups in under 2 minutes, and 9 pushups in under 2 minutes, annually. ***Age 51+ must be able to walk 1 mile in 20 minutes.
*Must pass shooting proficiency test using military police firearms qualification course.
*Must pass medical exam.
*Must pass criminal background check.
*Must obtain and maintain Secret DOD security clearance.

*Ability to maintain conduct becoming an officer as stated in the WSI Security Officer Handbook.
*Ability to maintain integrity and trustworthiness which is mandatory in the security environment.
*Ability to obtain and maintain a valid state Drivers License.
*Ability to possess a firearm and ammunition (record clear of any Domestic Violence convictions)
*Ability to follow safety compliance requirements. Must have transportation to and from work.
*Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
*Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
*Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
*Must be able to work any shift.
*Must produce a birth certificate and social security card for security clearance application process.
*Must be willing to start as part time status and be on a 90 day probationary period.
*Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
*Must be able to understand written and verbal orders.
*Must meet Army Regulations and client requirements concerning vision and hearing (Must have vision corrected to 20/30 Snelling and be able to hear normal conversation at 15 feet without the use of a hearing aid).
*Must be capable of investigating and writing police reports.
*Must be able to patrol and get in and out of vehicles while doing the same.
