Position Description:
RAND is seeking an expert in criminology to conduct policy-relevant research on public safety and justice issues. These issues include policing, evaluating crime prevention programs, sentencing reform and other justice system topics, homeland security, drug policy, terrorism, and gang research. <br /> <br />RAND researchers work in multi-disciplinary teams that include economists, psychologists, policy researchers, political scientists, engineers, historians, and others. Criminologists, sociologists, and other experts in criminology with strong research skills, experience in applying these to policy-relevant topics, and seeking a collaborative and entrepreneurial research environment are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
- Strong training in either quantitative or qualitative research methods.
- Excellent research and analysis skills 
- Knowledge and understanding of a broad array of current and developing policy issues 
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing 
- Ability to work effectively as a member of multi-disciplinary teams 
- Highly motivated, organized, flexible, and committed to RAND’s core values of quality  and objectivity

Education Requirements
Ph.D. in criminology, sociology, or related discipline with emphasis on criminology. <br />We are seeking both junior and senior researchers. Title and compensation will be commensurate with education and proven research/analysis accomplishments.

Experience
- Past research on criminology. 
- Senior researchers are expected to show a demonstrated ability to obtain extramural  funding, lead multi-disciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and communicate interim , and final results to the scientific community and to policymaking audiences.

Location: Santa Monica, Pittsburgh, or Washington, DC
