Description: The Security Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Park Operations, is responsible for planning and supervising the work of a group of employees and contractors engaged in security and safety activities.
Duties: • Represents management interests by taking or recommending actions that effectively control or implement DZS policy.
• Supervises Zoo and contracted employees.
• Conducts investigations of accidents, and suggests preventive solutions.
• Examines potential unsafe working conditions and orders corrective action.
• Involved with activities of safety committee and provides safety training.
• Performs safety inspections, and prepares reports.
• Develops and administers organization’s security programs to guard against theft, vandalism, violence, or other threats against the organization or its employees.
• Recommends protection measures.
• Provides building and grounds security; secures buildings, and protects against theft, vandalism, inappropriate entry, fire hazards, acts of violence, etc.
• Controls access to institutions, installations and facilities; checks identification, vehicles, packages, etc. Periodically inspects buildings grounds fences, gates and all other possible means of entrance and exit.
• Enforces laws, rules, and regulations.
• Maintains effective, collaborative and proactive relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
• Liaison with law enforcement and investigative efforts with local, state and/or federal agencies.
• Conducts investigations into allegations of a variety of inappropriate activities, rules infractions or illegal actions.
• Responds and administers first-aid treatment to anyone in need.
• Assesses situation and applies appropriate interventions to prevent or resolve crisis situations.
• Delivers presentations, stand up training, or instruction to staff or management.
• Assists in the set-up and cleanup of special events.
• Regularly patrols the facility alone or with subordinate staff, interacts with guests, responds to calls for services, and conducts with daily security operations.
• Supervises subordinate contracted personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
• As assigned, assist with a variety of special events, grounds tasks, mowing, weeding, general labor, snow removal, refuse and manure collection, and construction projects.
• Such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.Note: The intent of this list of primary duties is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this job. Work under conditions, including adverse weather and outside environment.
Physical Requirements
The Security Manager will be required to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time; must be able to multi task. A high degree of writing will be required and exposure to the elements. The Security Manager should be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Bending, squatting, walking and running will be required. The Security Manager will be required to pass and entry level drug screen and may be subjected to periodic drug tests.
Qualifications: • A bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, plus 4-5 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of work and education.
• Previous experience managing staff.
• Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety.
• Possess excellent written and oral communication.
• Outstanding leadership ability; must lead by example.
