Director of Security – Los Angeles, CA, San Jose, CA, Reston, VA, Chicago, IL

Department: Security

Reports to: Senior Vice President of Facilities

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt Role

As a member of the company’s Facilities team, the Director of Security’s primary responsibilities are to maintain and increase the value of CoreSite investments. Interacting with other members of CoreSite’s Facilities and Operations teams, ensure that the properties and facilities operate efficiently and with a high level of physical security. Duties

Responsible for hiring, training, and managing security supervisors and security vendors

Manage, coach, develop and provide leadership for all security personnel

Establish, maintain and modify (as needed) security standard operating procedures and practices

Establish, maintain and modify (as needed) standards for security equipment, software and construction

Participate with other members of senior management on design review and construction projects

Develop, manage, monitor and review expenses and annual budget for security operation as well as security related capital projects. Make recommendations for equipment purchases, installation and replacement

Manage the relationship with security vendors and ensure the quality of their services

Compliance with relevant organization requirements and government/regulatory laws

Remain up to date with changing practices and technologies with the overall security function, as well as within the colocation industry

Maintain confidentiality of all privileged information

Ensure security directives and guidelines are implemented and complemented by local security instructions

Manage security incidents and investigations

Perform security assessments and audits

Assess the risk level on each site and conduct site visits on regular basis

Coordinate security projects and activities for all sites in your specific region

Monitor and control costs and quality within the area of security, including outsourced security functions

Monitor and follow up security installations/solutions in building and reconstruction projects

Together with different site management team’s initiate, setup and lead security management board and crisis management team

Perform security awareness and crisis management training

Create a “security culture” and security awareness among all employees in the organization

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge in security products and solutions

Knowledge of ISO/IEC 27001 or other security standard

Common sense and the ability to retain composure in occasionally stressful situations

Knowledge of building operations

Knowledge and experience in management of safety (emergencies and contingencies) and technical security system (like CCTV, access, and alarm)

Experience of building and Guard management

Reliable, strong responsibility and result oriented

Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook

Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills

Good planning and organizational skills

Good influencing capability on people at various social levels and across diverse cultures

Good Customer service skills with client oriented

Excellent customer relations skills. Conflict resolution skills

Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and web hosted programs

The ability to work and communicate with a variety of personalities and cross functional groups. Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple concurrent issues

Excellent coaching, mentoring and leadership skills

Relevant and recent experience with access control and CCTV systems

Excellent organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, public safety or police science preferred

At least 5 years of experience being in charge of a corporate security function related to physical security and technical security systems
