Protective Services And Firearms Instructor

Primary Purpose and Functions
Instructors are responsible for providing professional quality instruction to students, ensuring that each student in his/her class has a productive, challenging, and meaningful experience in the classroom or on the firing range. PSTA Instructors report directly to the PSTA Training Manager.
The selected candidate will be a self-starter who has a strong work ethic and posseses strong time management skills. He or she will understand, and represent, PSTA as a brand ambassador while meeting or exceeding client expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PSTA Protective Services and Firearms Instructors conduct both classroom and range live-fire weapon instruction for new hire applicants (initial training) and current officers (in-service/refresher training) of client companies using standardized Programs of Instruction required for certification of Protective Service Officers. The primary responsibility of each Instructor is the safety and well being of all students during all training activities they lead. They administer and grade end-of-course tests and examinations. They also prepare and sign training documentation required for submission to third party agency certifiers, such as the Federal Protective Service, American Red Cross etc..

Job Requirements
A minimum of 5 years certified training experience performing platform and hands-on instruction in the protective services, law enforcement, or military fields is required. Physical security, law enforcement, and/or military experience is preferred. Applicants will also be evaluated as to selection and compensation based on breadth of applicable current certifications held, to include but not limited to:

Virginia DCJS:
- General Instructor (13I)
- Firearms Instructor (14I)

NRA Law Enforcement:
- Handgun Instructor
- Shotgun Instructor
- Rifle Instructor

District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department:
- Firearms Instructor (D.C. SPO)

Maryland State Police:
- Qualified Handgun Instructor

American Red Cross
- First Aid Instructor
- CPR (Adult/Infant/Child) / AED Instructor

Other Certifications:
- Monadnock Expandable Baton (MEB)/Defensive Tactics Instructor
- OC (Pepper Spray) Instructor

In addition, armorer certification by NRA, Glock, Smith and Wesson, or any other firearms entity is a plus.

Ability to demonstrate excellent marksmanship and weapon safety skills are required. The same is true for preparation and delivery of classroom instruction. Good oral and written communications skills, as well as the ability to interact with PSTA client students in a manner reflecting favorably on PSTA, are also required. Experience and skills using commercial off-the-shelf software including Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) is required. Absolute integrity and ethical behavior is a must.

All applicants must pass a background investigation and drug screening at initial hire and annually thereafter. Current possession of a high level clearance, or the ability to screen for one, is a plus. At a minimum, successful applicants must currently have or be able to gain favorable adjudication for FPS Suitability determination.

Successful applicants will be required to maintain all of the training certifications they hold at time of hire for the duration of employment as a condition of employment.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans.
Ability to respond effectively to the student inquiries or complaints.
Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to the students.

The PSTA is a client-service driven organization. Instructors are ambassadors of the PSTA brand and will be held accountable to the company standard by delivering a favorable training experience. The Training Manager will conduct employee development programs to ensure the success of the PSTA training department. Therefore, it is imperative that PSTA Instructors possess the following qualities:

• Self-starters that are able to work independently.
• A strong work ethic that enhances productivity.
• Strong time management skills.
• Strong oral and written communications skills.
• Understands corporate culture and brand management.
• Willing to accept and represent the PSTA brand and manage perceptions and expectations of clients.

The selected candidate will meet the following metrics to be considered successful:

• 85% cumulative pass rate of students
• 90% cumulative student satisfaction rate
• 100% maintenance of credentials
