Minimum Requirements:URS, an AECOM Company is immediately hiring Gunsmith III's at Ft. Polk, LA.

High school diploma/GED and must have at least 5 years actual and recent experience in repairing and maintaining armament equipment desired- 3 years actual and recent experience in Direct Support Shop in Small Arms Repair, to include Mortars, Heavy and Light Crew Served Weapons. The Small Arms Repairer has a thorough understanding of, and can instruct in external/internal and terminal ballistics, can build custom pistols and rifles, as well as other types of weapons systems with no supervision, and has a thorough understanding of machine tools and equipment. In addition, this incumbent can do the following: work from blueprints without supervision, design, fabricate and develop prototype small arms systems from a drawing or form customer input, work to Special Repair Facility Level maintenance, and can design computer prototypes from customer input. The Gunsmith III consults with government officials in all facets concerning the Weapons Department, such as, but not limited to, indoor/outdoor range design, ammunition fundamentals ballistics, weapons mounts, 82 suppressors, optic systems, prototype development and reverse engineering projects, and performs direct supervision and training of subordinate gunsmiths.

“Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English” Job Description: Small Arms Repairer will primarily be responsible for the quality assurance and maintenance on a wide range of small arms equipment. Major emphasis placed on OPTICS REPAIR of mortar sights, artillery sights M198 and various equipment. The repairer will diagnose and locate mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbines, automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, along with other small arms and accessories.

Duties include disassembly of weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components, examine for defects, mechanical misalignment and malfunctions; replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies; will modify small arms weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies; use hand and machine tools, precision gauges and test instruments, and jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments; apply acids and/or other bluing or finishing agents; test fire and/or make operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation.
