Director, Security

The position of Director, Security is responsible for leading and supporting the overall Encana Security Program and protecting assets, staff and operations.  The Director will oversee the development of companywide programs and practices and lead other operational security resources. The role can be based in either Denver, Colorado or Calgary, Alberta and reports to the Vice President, EH&S/Regulatory Compliance/Security.


Responsibilities
  • provide oversight to the Encana Security Program
  • accountable for the continuous development of security programs
  • ensure  all security programs meet regulatory and industry requirements
  • provide support for all operational field locations, working with Security  Field Representatives
  • coordinate security for company executives
  • develop security plans for executive meetings, regular and special board of director meetings, strategy sessions and events
  • provide oversight to internal investigations
  • provide guidance and oversight of security assessments for operational projects
  • provide guidance for building security at Encana office locations
  • accountable for crisis management/emergency response
  • liaise with professional peer groups, police and government agencies
  • provide a support service to groups including EH&S, Human Resources, Information Services, Travel and Health & Wellness
  • support the Life Safety Program
  • directly supervise and mentor a subcontracted security guard force as they conduct access control, loss prevention and other duties at the project site access points and on the project lease
  • provide oversight, protection and response for violations of company ethics policy, including dishonesty, fraud, conflict of interest and other issues related to workplace violence and antisocial behavior (i.e. making threats, sexual harassment, etc.)
  • execute internal security controls through performance of compliance assessment reviews and self-inspections
  • develop and implement corrective actions for identified process deficiencies

Qualifications
  • legally eligible for employment in the United States or Canada
  • legally eligible to travel into both Canada and the US
  • bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is required
  • proven leadership capabilities with 15+ years of relevant security experience
  • security experience within the oil and gas industry is preferred
  • strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • strong investigative background
  • experienced in writing programs and procedures as well as risk and threat assessments
  • direct experience of planning and executing VIP security
