Security Specialist

Summary: The Security Specialist will be responsible for supporting the SBU Security Department in all areas of personnel, physical and information security. The Security Specialist will assist staff, managers, employees, and consultants on all aspects of government security requirements and maintains minimum physical security requirements for operational facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)
Assists employees on preparation of security clearance paperwork using the Electronic Questionnaire for Investigation Processing (e-QIP) system to ensure compliance and complete processing.
Coordinates additional security requirements such as Polygraphs, National Agency Checks and Counterintelligence Screening, when necessary.
Ensures new hires are fully processed in advance of start date. Works with them on any questions they may have on new hire paperwork. Communicates any issues affecting start dates.
Maintains Access Commander Database to track security actions concerning employees, and consultants.
Processes incoming and outgoing Visit Requests for classified visits electronically or via fax. Provides timely requests for current employees as contract and/or badge renewal requires.
Coordinates Special Security briefings, such as foreign travel brief and debrief, courier, NATO, etc.
Processes Level 4 JPAS duties to include running PR Reports, in- and out-processing employees and consultants, sending/receiving visit requests, interpreting person summaries for eligibility and access, etc.
Responds as On-Call person for alarm activations in the MIOS facility, when needed.
Prepares Security ID Badges for security identification purposes.
Issues, tracks and reconciles Temporary badges
Maintains “end-of-day” checklist, Visitor Badge logs, and visitor logs.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
High School Diploma/GED required, Associates degree preferred.
1 year of security related experience
Valid driver’s license.
Active Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain Top Secret eligibility.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), and Outlook.
Attention to detail.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent workflows.

Work Environment:

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
