Position Description
Under the immediate supervision of the Sergeant, the Security Officer:
Performs routine tasks as outlined in detailed instructions and procedures.
Assists in the protection of RAND’s staff, visitors and physical assets by maintaining and safeguarding the facility including the exterior and interior perimeters which includes observing and reporting and monitoring cameras.
Patrols, stands guard and protects the facilities by foot and /or vehicle to detect or prevent illegal/unauthorized activities to include unauthorized access, theft, or intentional destruction
Assist in monitoring the flow of personnel and vehicular traffic entering and exiting the building
In the absence of the Lobby receptionist, the officer will greet and verify the credentials of all visitors.
The officer must be able to make and activate a temporary badge using the LENEL Security System.
Logs personnel/visitor security clearances and controls activities to verify personal and Company ID.
Visually inspects areas to prevent any hazards and notifies the sergeant when appropriate to ensure proper safety procedures are followed.
Performs escort duties as needed.
Performs duties on the Loading Dock including receiving and accounting for shipments and deliveries and is responsible for maintaining visitor badges and accountability logs assigned to the Loading Dock.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of security systems and equipment in a business environment
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good computer skills; Microsoft Office experience is preferred
Current California guard card required
First Aid/CPR certified
Valid California drivers’ license with a good driving record and be insurable
Able and willing to work ongoing any assigned shift including the day shift (first shift) swing shift (second shift) and the midnight shift (third shift)
Able and willing to work any day of the week including weekends
Able to be alert at all times while on duty on any shift
Able to stand for prolonged periods of time at least two hours and walk at a quick pace
Able to stand or walk outdoors in the sunlight or in a kiosk
Be able to lift 35 pounds
Must have good vision and hearing abilities, corrected or uncorrected
Must have a clear police record (no convictions) to qualify for carrying a TASER and Pepper Spray
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in security operations
High School Diploma or equivalent GED
Transferable security clearance is required
This position will require a background check and the candidate must be able to pass the post-offer pre-employment physical exam
Candidates must be local to the Los Angeles/Southern California area.

Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Security Clearance
U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. Having an active Secret clearance during the past two years or interim Secret clearance is required.
