Job Description
Basic functions:
Work of the Security Manager involves Supervision Over all security day-to-day operations. This position also oversees all Emergency Medical Technicians. To help develop the Security / Safety Supervisor and all Security Staff. The Security Manager must ensure that all staff meet and follow the FOTZ Policies and Procedures. The function of a class (A) licensed Officer, you have the authority to detain and apprehend people either committing crimes, or attempting to commit crimes in your presence, or when you have probable cause to believe they have committed a crime. Our authority is limited to the property we are hired to protect. We protect guests, employees, animals, and patrol parking lots observing other Zoo properties and buildings to deter damage or theft at the Kansas City Zoo. Performs duties personally and through subordinate employees.
Essential Duties
Monitoring
Policy implementation
Project a positive image
Resolve potential safety issues
Training of Security officers
Training Zoo employees on Security/Safety awareness
Provide Customer Service
Provide First Aid
Patrol all areas
Loss Prevention
Participate in Risk Management & Safety committees.
Reviewing Officer logs
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
Plan schedules and coordinates all Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Review OSHA regulations & enforce same
Review reports of injury / Workers Compensation incidents
Monitoring compliance with the organization policies and procedures
Interviews and selects new Security Officers and Emergency Medical Technicians.
Physical Effort:
The ability to stay on feet for extended periods of time. The ability to frequently enter and exit a variety of vehicles. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires being able to hear and speak clearly. The ability to Patrol for extended periods of time.
Working conditions:
Occasionally in a climate controlled vehicle.
Working outside in extremes weather conditions (Heat and or Cold)
Relationship:
Internal: Daily with employees.
External: Frequently with visitors, guest, volunteers, and community service workers .
Skills needed:
Knowledge of the responsibilities and legal ramifications associated with performing private security services.
Ability to maintain records and prepares report concerning time worked.
Assist Supervisors in dealing effectively with employee issues
Provide customer service to guest, delivery agents, contractor and employees that visit the Zoo.
Ability to perform First Aid
Prepares schedule and time sheets.
Ability to remain calm in an emergency.
Patience and tolerance for repetition
Ability to help with predator control
Ability to deal with all types of people
Ability to deal with all types of employees
Verbal skill with all types of people
Observation skill
Interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
Must have valid driver’s license.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent. Three (3) years experience as Security Officer . Two (2) years Experience as a Security Supervisor
DECISION MAKING:
Must be able to make immediate decisions concerning
