While based in Dunn Loring, VA, travel will be required to take place throughout the U.S. and OCONUS.
General Description:
The Firearms Instructor reports to the Firearms Training Unit Chief, located in the Special Skills Branch, Security and Law Enforcement Training Division, Office of training and Performance Support (TPS), Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), U.S. Department of State. The TPS is a fully accredited academy through Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA). The incumbent will serve as a firearms instructor and senior range safety officer conducting day-to-day operations of the Firearms Training Unit ensuring objectives are met. Additionally, the Firearms instructor will participate in training oversight for various Task Orders awarded under the Department of State Worldwide Protective Security contract. This oversight requires travel throughout the US and abroad. Overseas travel may include areas declared as hostile environments. Travel to various training sites will comprise approximately 30 percent of work requirements.
Major Duties:
Operates the DS range facility ensuring compliance with OSHA and/or EPS standards and regulations
Plans, organizes and manages the presentation of firearms training courses
Reviews established training objectives, lesson plans, training materials, and instructional methods prior to the beginning of assigned courses
Researches and reviews current intelligence related to the diplomatic security mission and introduces applicable information into firearms training courses
Resolves problems that occur in the preparation for and during training
Evaluates training effectiveness to ensure that training objectives have been met.
