Job Summary
The Canine Trainer will utilize operant and classical training techniques to train canines in detection of explosives. Prepare canines for operational missions to include acclimation into new and various environments.
Imprint Canines on prescribed odors prior to assigning to Instructor. Make key recommendations to Instructors on canine’s abilities/training, in order to assign canine to the respective handler
Effectively train explosive detection dogs of various breeds, for purposes of passing prescribed NORT (National Odor Recognition Test) and operational tests with key company clients.
Develop and follow established training protocols in accordance with (IAW) Statements of Work (SOW) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), to include properly securing, handling, transporting and accounting for canine training aids.
Evaluate and document canine behavior to determine training needs of canines IAW company procurement testing. Effectively document canine training IAW company standards.
Assist when needed in instruction and training of new handlers and trainers as well as canines. Make solid recommendations on K9 preparation and readiness of testing ability for said team.
Ensure training records on assigned canines and unassigned canines are properly entered into company tracking software. Be an excellent problem-solver in working to the source of K9 issues and able to correct such issues using proper training techniques.
Perform operational searches as needed.
Essential Functions
1. Provide Canine Welfare for all canines IAW company standards, federal laws and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees.
2. Follow established training protocols and company directives in the training of canines.
3. Properly utilize canine training equipment to include safety equipment for canines and trainers. Train and manage multiple canines through the training process, from initial training through certification. Secure and account for canine training aids, equipment, company vehicles, canine trailers, company assets and resources.
4. Maintain the cleanliness of training areas, company vehicles, canine trailers, resources and facilities.
5. Arranges operational exercises in locations such as mock-up villages, farmland, airports, and sports arenas to replicate real life scenarios.
6. Follow standard operating procedures when conducting and performing operational searches.

Qualifications & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience in the practices of canine training within a federal agency, law Enforcement Agency, Military Unit, or organization with major canine detection training programs
Kennel Master/Supervisors/Trainers course strongly preferred.
Must have experience with National Odor Recognition Test (or similar ORT/ORPT/DSORT) standards and effective proven training methods.
Certification or Licensure Requirements:
Must have attended and graduated with certificates from a credible and recognized K9 Explosive Detection Course.
