Job Description Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, the Security Director will manage and direct all aspects of security services to the Peabody Campus of The Johns Hopkins University with primary emphasis on students, faculty, and staff. Establish security strategy, provide
supervision to approximately 20 employees on three shifts for a 24-hour 7day per week operation. Acts as liaison with Baltimore City Police Department, other JHU security offices, and other community organizations for security issues. Assume a leadership role in crisis planning and incident response.Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Enforce University policies and regulations, ensure compliance with federal, state and local legislation and ordinances.
Manage all aspects of security including operational, budgetary, transportation, security alarms and crisis management.
Establish and implement the overall security strategy for the institute. Review and evaluate current security policies and procedures for adequacy and implements new policies and procedures on a strategic basis: assess financial and operational impact of these policies and procedures to Peabody.
With Institute IT, manage the security monitoring and alarm systems for the campus to include communication with the security service vendors and oversee the proper operation of the campus security cameras and the control access system.
Responsible for hiring, training, and managing the staff.
Advise other Peabody administrators on preventing and solving security problems.
Handle emergency situations to reach safe and effective resolution.
Investigate all incidents at Peabody and ensure that proper documentation is prepared and filed.
Recommend cost effective security operations.
Communicate with Associate Deans regarding student safety and conduct.
Monitor crime prevention services for the protection of life and property on the campus and community, including uniformed patrol of the campus buildings and parking lots.
Maintain the annual security reports in accordance with the Clery Act.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of study or completion of training in an accredited Police Academy.Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a relevant field, preferably within a college/university security department.
10 years of relevant experience with evidence of progressive responsibilities, preferably within a college/university security department.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills necessary to establish and maintain rapport with Peabody students, faculty, staff and the public. Maintain confidentiality.
Effective use of PC’s and word processing; Experience writing and maintaining plans and policies.
Ability to function within, and promote, a customer service oriented environment working in support of students, faculty, staff and their activities.
Ability to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
