Description
The position of Chief Armorer will be responsible for overseeing is provided instruction in the care, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of S&W revolvers, pistols, rifles and carbines for law enforcement and civilian students attending classes at the Academy. The Chief Armorer will demonstrate, show and service S&W products to law enforcement agencies at city, state and federal levels. Liaise with S&W Sporting Goods Sales Managers to communicate market trends, optimize customer relations and maximize sales potential. Will share most duties and responsibilities with the Lead Instructor/Armorer.
Requirements
Associates degree
5 or more years of assembling and servicing firearms
3 or more years of instructional experience -- firearms instruction preferred
Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills required
Must have working command of the English language
Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language
Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (basic verbal instructions, simple written memos and instructions)
Basic computer skills preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Mass Resident or Non-Resident License to Carry
Valid Driver's License
Mass machine gun license to possess
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Essential duties include the following - other duties may be assigned:
•Provide instruction in the care, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of S&W revolvers, pistols, rifles and carbines for Law Enforcement and civilian students attending classes at The Smith & Wesson Academy in Springfield, MA and at field school locations (nationally & internationally)
•Demonstrate, show and service S&W products to LE agencies at city, state and federal levels.
•Liaise with S&W LE and Sporting Goods Sales Managers to communicate market trends, optimize customer relations and maximize sales potential.
•Train employees at all levels (basic orientation, armorer, & Instructor level)
•Provide guidance and support to S&W Armorer Instructors.
•Write and develop training manuals, power point presentations, outlines, lesson plans, exams, quarterly newsletter, tool kit lists, & course descriptions.
•Coordinate scheduling and enrollment of classes at The Academy and Field schools for all Academy Armorer Instructors (3)
•Accurately maintain inventory of over 1000 firearms. Conduct quarterly audits and assist in spot checks by compliance and finance departments.
•Shipping & receiving of all firearms, equipment and training materials to and from field school locations. Ensure detailed records of all shipments are recorded.
•Liaise with Engineering, Product Managers, and Customer Support to stay current on product revisions, design and quality.
•Use effective listening and communication skills to accurately diagnose the root cause of customer satisfaction issues and identify & prioritize the resources needed for resolution.
•Answer technical questions by applying firearm knowledge and assisting the customer in the proper selection of a part &/or corrective action plan.
•Speak publicly, create effective presentations, communicate and teach prescribed processes and procedures associated with S&W products in an articulate manner.
•Accurately maintain sufficient inventory of firearms, tool kits, classroom tools, parts, and other related materials to supply classes at The Academy and in the field.
•Print, sort and prepare all training materials, parts, tools and firearms for all armorers classes.
•Set up / tear down classroom before and after classes, also clean Academy classroom after class.
•Maintain accurate records of training in accordance with MA Dept. Of Education.
•Continually improve personal knowledge of firearms mechanics and instructor development by referencing industry and Law Enforcement journals; enhanced with hands on work.
•Maintain proficiency in the use of rifles, shotguns and handguns by attending Academy classes, referencing industry and Law Enforcement journals and hands on range time.
•Ensure all personal travel arrangements are made in a cost efficient manner.
•Submit detailed expense reports in a timely manner.
•Capture and edit photographic images for use in power point presentations.
•Conduct plant and academy tours for students and special guests.
•Strategically market Academy and S&W at appropriate opportunities.
•Substantial travel required; averaging 6 -- 10 nights per month.
