Job Description


Reporting within the Emory Police Department, the Manager of Physical Security Services plans, directs, and coordinates activities relating to the protection, safeguarding, and security of faculty, staff, students, visitors, University assets, and physical locations. Implements, monitors, and ensures compliance with all security policies, procedures, and programs. Responsible for developing, promoting and maintaining a high level of security standards and "Best Practices" by focusing on risk management and implementing strategic security programs. Provides managerial oversight for facility security services provided by security personnel. Manages all aspects of the provision of physical security services including direct supervision / oversight of the Community Service Officer staff and private security contract staff. Manages the development of systems and processes to ensure quality customer service. Identifies process improvements and analyzes opportunities to enhance efficiency and planning for security service optimization. Serves as the point of contact for customers / community members related to the provision of physical security services. Provides managerial oversight (to include contract management, service performance, and invoice approval) for physical security service vendor contracts. Provides managerial oversight (to include management, service performance, and invoice approval) for physical security services provided under Service Level Agreements with other Emory entities. Develops and implements new programs to achieve goals and objectives defined by the department. Coordinates equipment purchases, inventory and maintenance of property and equipment. Plans and supervises special event security services. Effectively manages employee performance and addresses problems by providing employees with feedback on an ongoing basis and identifying ways to further develop skills. Facilitates in-service training and staff education. Hires, trains and supervises staff. Maintains relationships with other Emory entity safety/security groups. Participates in meeting and committees to provide feedback on issues that may affect the security program on campus. Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of experience in a law enforcement or security-related position, including two years of leadership and supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience directing the provision of physical security services through the use of security personnel. The successful candidate must possess effective communication (both written and oral) and customer service skills; ability to remain calm under stressful situations, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks. Prior experience in a college/university setting preferred.
