Overview:
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) provide medical coverage for a
variety of Marine Special
Operations Command (MARSOC) training exercises. These exercises include live fire ranges, physical training, off road marches and pool qualification swims. They also support sick call for MARSOC walk in patients.
EMT’s must have the professional ability to recognize unsafe or dangerous activity and make the appropriate recommendations to ensure safety. They provide first aid and basic life support (CPR) to all required training activities. Examples of what EMT’s routinely encounter are medical situations ranging from routine to severe heat cases and cold exposure, to blisters, splinters, fractures, and envenomations (insect bites, snake bites, etc.). EMT’s must be able to critically think and assess a situation and determine the appropriate/protocol method of treatment to include evacuation to proper medical treatment facilities.

Responsibilities:
By procedure and statement of work, EMT’s are required to document
all patient encounters and treatment rendered, follow up on the
patient’s condition and report the results/recommendations to the
attending physician. Additionally, EMT’s are required by law to
continuously stay updated on all applicable certifications, medical
practices, and protocols.

Full time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT-B), working under the license of the MSOS Senior Medical Officer (SMO) , to support the MSOS staff

Provide live-fire emergency medical support

Will work with the MSOS SMO to develop and validate the latest emergency medical protocols ensuring the best emergency medical care is available for MARSOC using the training/sustainment program approved by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM)

Familiarity with the TTPS associated with the high-risk training evolutions that are conducted on a daily basis and will remain fully engaged in supporting these as requirements generated
- Work for companies that are certified through the USSOCOM Surgeons Office. Those companies will maintain Entry Level and In-Service TCCC training
- Document any care given in appropriate medical records as well as Basic Life Support (BLS) given to patients, in accordance with DOD Instruction 6055.06, “DOD Fire and Emergency Services Program”
Qualifications:
The qualifications currently required are:
Ability to:
- Must possess a current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification and/ or a North Carolina State EMT certification.
- Must be prior military service as a combat medic (8404 FMF Corpsman, 68W/91B Army Combat Infantry Medic)
- Emergency medical care techniques and procedures;
- Basic life support methods, procedures and equipment;
- Medical terminology;
- Methods, materials, practices, techniques and equipment
Ability to:
- Perform duties in emergency situations and to evaluate and differentially diagnose patient’s conditions and communicate clearly with professional medical personnel;
- Perform general emergency medical treatment ;
- Respond quickly and calmly in emergency and stress situations;
- Follow oral and written instructions;
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with physicians, fellow employees and active duty personnel;
- Prepare and maintain reports.
Education & Experience Requirements:

Hold current NREMT-B certification or NC EMT-B certification and/or a North Carolina State EMT certification (EMT-I & EMT-P is preferred due to high risk training); prior military service as a Hospital Corpsman or Medic with SOF (18D, SARC, SOIDC, TCCC) background is preferred but not required. At least one contractor should be an EMT-B instructor

Must be able to pass the MSOS Medic Physical Ability Test. Additionally, they must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift, carry, use their hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, speak and be understood on a two-way radio, move up to 150 pounds, and handle exposure to extreme conditions (heat and cold environments while on field coverage
- Be certified in General Instructor Development
