VSE Corporation is seeking a Gunsmith II for our Ft. Hood location.- Must follow and promote all
safety guidelines established by VSE Corporation and site of assignment.
- Will be required to utilize PPE (personnel protective equipment) as described at work site(s).
- Interpret, understand and utilize technical manuals, technical bulletins and other documentation as it applies to the service, gauging and repair of weapons and weapons systems.
- Perform a full range of maintenance and repairs such as disassembly, cleaning, gauging and services on weapons such as small arms, crew serve, and mortars at a minimum.
- Possess a full knowledge of all hand and power tools required to perform assignments as it relates to weapons.
- May be required to perform repairs and purging on NVG’s and other related items as needed.
- Identify parts needed by use of TM’s and other manuals, order, receive and install items as required.
Document supply and maintenance repair actions on manual forms as well as automated equipment.
- Will be required to perform all functions of maintenance, cleaning and repairs TM-10/20/30 level repairs of items such as; M16 series, M240B, M950, M249, M60, M50, M9, M1911, and other related models.
- Will be required duties of accountability and security of weapons, vaults, safes, and other security equipment as it pertains to site location.
- May be required to travel to multiple out of town locations to perform functions of this description up to 50% of the time employed.
- Must be capable of performing assignments in a fully acceptable manner with little if any supervision and possess good communication skills to maintain liaison with supervisors and supported activity personnel.
- May be required to work over-time on days, nights and weekends as directed or as work-loads demand.
Must be a team player and perform duties in a team work environment.
- In addition to performing all functions of Level I Gunsmith, the Level II generally attends factory armorer’s courses of small arms in the arms room inventory, performs major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, builds either custom pistols or rifles with little or no supervision, possesses excellent knowledge of gun-smiting tools and procedures, and possesses moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics.
Must have a thorough understanding of firearm special tooling with some supervision, can read and understand blueprint drawings, and can work from those drawings under direct supervision.
- The Gunsmith II can perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems.
- This position may require computer literacy.
- The Gunsmith II must be able to read, understand, and perform the processes and reports in FLMS, SAMS. Certificate of training required.
Qualifications Required
- Must possess a minimum of 4 years experience relating to position requirement.
- Experience in another maintenance field is highly desirable for employment when not busy with Small Arms Repair
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Certification, MOS/NEC qualified, or extensive technical schooling is required for this position.
- Must be capable of standing, walking, reaching, climbing for long periods of time, and be fully capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.
- Must be capable of passing background check(s) and substance abuse screening /testing prior to employment and randomly throughout employment. Failure of either could result in termination
