Job Description
SummaryThis position oversees the continuous monitoring and protection
of the facility, personnel and residents. It evaluates suspected
security breaches and recommends corrective actions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct supervision and guidance to security staff.
- Recruits, hires, orients, trains and evaluates security staff.
- Ensures overall security operations are conducted in accordance with established policies, procedures.
- Coordinates facility training program in conjunction with federal, state, local and corporate requirements and guidelines.
- Ensures that required security inspections of the facility are conducted and documented in a thorough and timely manner.
- Ensure that all resident pat downs, headcounts, quarter searches, urinalyses, and breath analysis are conducted as required.
- Ensures the coordination of scheduled inmate transports between facility and various locations including courts or medical treatment facilities.
- Oversees the inmate disciplinary process to ensure compliance with policy, procedure and minimum standards.
- Monitors daily activities to ensure they are in conjunction with established building schedule.
- Conduct routine inspections of all areas of the within and surrounding the facility.
- Reviews daily staffing to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Investigates alleged staff misconduct and submit written report to management for review.
- Reviews all required security reports including incident, disciplinary, accident, or inspection for thoroughness and accuracy
- Inspects the facility on a daily basis for cleanliness and safety compliance.
- Ensure weekly fire safety inspections and month fire evacuation drills are conducted.
- Acts as Facility Director in his/her absence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, human services or a related field. (Educational requirements may be waived for someone with a strong correctional or human services background and supervision skills.)
- Minimum of two years of management and supervisory experience within a correctional setting.
- Familiar with community corrections systems and current community corrections practices.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and experience with offenders preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations manuals and routine instructions and procedures.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the facility
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
- Must hold a current and active driver’s license and meet state insurance requirements.
