We are seeking a Gunsmith III at Fort Knox, KY. As a Gunsmith III, you will use your administrative
subject-matter knowledge and judgment to complete varied assignments. You’ll solve problems by adapting or interpreting substantive guides, manuals, or procedures.
Essential Functions:
Consult with government officials in all facets concerning the Weapons Department, such as (but not limited to) indoor/outdoor range design, ammunition fundamentals ballistics, weapons mounts, suppressors, optic systems, prototype development and reverse engineering projects, and performs direct supervision and training of subordinate gunsmiths.
Instruct in external/internal and terminal ballistics; build custom pistols and rifles, as well as other types of weapons systems with no supervision, and use machine tools and equipment.
May do the following: work from blueprints without supervision, design, fabricate and develop prototype small arms systems from a drawing or form customer input, work to Special Repair Facility Level maintenance, and design computer prototypes from customer input.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Familiarity with current weapons systems, M16, M4, M110, M24, M107, MK19, M240 Series, M60, 25MM, etc.
Complete a formal one- to two-year accredited in-house gun-smithing course, or equivalent work experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
At least 2 years of experience directly related to the direct support and organization level maintenance for small arms inspection and repair to include gauging.
Proof of certified training in this related field is required.
Familiarity with the regulations related to security, sensitivity, containment, and transport of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
Background investigation results must be favorable.
