SUMMARY OF PURPOSE
Responsible for the management of the security and safety functions and the security staff at The Henry Ford which includes the 250 acre campus, Henry Ford Academy, and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour. The Director of Security & Safety will guard against all threats and actions against The Henry Ford through their direct efforts and the efforts of the security staff. This position will set the strategy and direction for all security and safety initiatives at The Henry Ford for security and all employees, students, and guests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements security plans for: daily operations, special problems, major events, natural disasters, terrorist activity, and workplace violence incidents that will enhance security operations and contribute to overall safety and security.
Informs appropriate parties, internal and external, on any threats or vulnerabilities to the institution.
Recruits, staffs, directs, and develops security personnel to ensure security standards are maintained and that security operations are carried out efficiently and effectively.
Manages and supervises the security officer-training program, ensuring that all officers successfully complete the required state-mandated training.
Manages and supervises the ongoing in-service training of the security staff utilizing the training manuals, outside resources, and guest trainers. Training should also be given to non-security staff members for awareness, readiness, and response.
Maintains security infrastructure, including radios, cameras, alarm systems, door access, etc, and adds enhancements to new technology and practices when necessary.
Maintains up-to-date standards on best practices on security personnel, response, intelligence, and practices.
Maintains a multi-year plan for reinvestment of resources, capital, and other changes that are needed to ensure sound security practices.
Proactively develops, cultivates, and maintains close relationships with external security partners such as the Dearborn Police, Ford Motor Company, security advisors, etc.
Formulates and recommends policies/procedures and objectives, in an effort to keep the institute up-to-date and informed of new developments.
Oversees The Henry Ford’s safety program and works closely with other units to proactively reduce accidents and incidents from occurring for guests and employees.
Works with Chief Financial Officer to maintain a risk monitoring system and incorporates new practices and procedures to mitigate risk.
Performs other activities as necessary.
Contributes to the effective team management of all problems, issues and opportunities.
Acts as team player and provides expertise within the team and with other teams as appropriate.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited university in business, public administration, criminal justice, social science, or a related field is required.
Master’s degree or other advanced, graduate-level credentials are strongly preferred.
Ten (10) years' minimum progressive leadership experience in security and/or law enforcement required.
Proven track record of a versatile background, including experience in: budget, field operations, personnel management, planning, recruiting, and reporting responsibility.
Ability to successfully pass a background investigation and drug test.
Physical ability to effectively respond to any security incident on campus.
