French language ability – speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social and professional topics, able to read standard newspaper items addressed to the general reader, routine correspondence, reports and technical materials in the individual’s special field.
Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to completion of college-level courses in the designated foreign language and one year of increasingly responsible experience in translating written documents and providing oral interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience conducting military translations in a professional military setting.

Description:
This position is the OCONUS PSO translator for all Africa contingency operations, training and assistance program activities. THIS POSITION REQUIRES UN MILITARY EXPERIENCE, A PASSPORT FOR TRAVEL. PREFER INDIVIDUALS WHO SPEAK AND READ FRENCH with fluency TO PARTICIPATE IN MOST FORMAL AND INFORMAL CONVERSATIONS.

Responsibilities:
Translates and produces a variety of general and technical documents, materials and script from English to designated language for team and project staff; provides interpretations during formal presentations at conferences and meetings on and off sites without the aid of electronic dictionaries or electronic translators. Reads translates, and produces a variety of documents, materials, information bulletins, handbooks, correspondence and news releases; prepare drafts and finished, proofed translations; produce verbatim translations. Supports the translation of ACOTA Programs of Instruction from English to French, Portuguese, Arabica and/or other languages as required.
