Explosive Detection Canine Handler (EDCH) Position Description

MSA Security is currently seeking a motivated retired law enforcement officer or prior military canine handler to work in Minneapolis, MN.  We will train the right candidate.  This position requires the handler to maintain, train, and utilize Explosive Detection Canines (EDCs) to conduct routine, urgent, and emergency searches and/or sweeps at client locations.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Partner with a trained EDC to conduct searches in/at locations including, but not limited to: corporate buildings, delivery vehicles, loading docks, open areas and other areas or situations as needed
  • Use clear, concise, and legible written communication
  • Be effective at interpersonal communications
  • Assist and liaise effectively with the client’s security manager, law enforcement agencies, security personnel, and local partners or their representatives
  • Abide by and implement Company policies, programs, operating instructions, and directives
  • Be available for incident/emergency response duty, standby duty, and client demonstrations including weekends, holidays, and nights and overnights
  • Ensure the service provided to clients is to their satisfaction
  • Maintain and submit by deadline the training records for your assigned EDC

Desired Skills and Experience
Job Specific Preferences: 
  • Must possess a minimum of five years’ experience in Law Enforcement or 3 years military
  • Graduated from a certified Explosive Detection Canine military training program or equivalent accredited law enforcement certification course a plus
  • Must be able to pass extensive background check
  • Must be able to qualify for NAPWDA certification (training provided by MSA Security)

The right candidate likes canines, is a skilled problem solver, is willing to work in highly visible and sometimes precarious environments while displaying appropriate leadership attributes. A candidate must be friendly, reliable, trustworthy, responsible, and have great communication and people skills. A candidate for this position is emotionally mature, accountable, dedicated to the job they choose to do and motivates others to be the same.
