Canine Program Commander

The Canine Program Commander provides oversight and training of the CCA canine program. Directs, administers, and coordinates the activities of canine officers in support of policies, goals, and objectives. Conducts training and retraining of all new canine officers and dogs. Provides canine support to all facilities and conducts canine audits as directed.

High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent. Three years of experience in a criminal justice field or other acceptable related field, which includes two years in a supervisory capacity is required. Must have canine handling certification with two years of experience training detection service canines from start to certification. Additionally, must have, or demonstrate the ability to acquire
within one year of selection, certification as a canine handler trainer and canine trainer with the authority to certify canine handler teams. Accomplish work independently and coordinate operations involving multiple teams. Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training and, where applicable, be a commissioned security officer licensed by the state of employment. A valid driver's license is required. Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
