Job Introduction:

The K9 Handler performs his or her duties while commanding a trained working dog that is part of a team that has met certification standards and is a certified team to search for explosives. The team may be required to search vehicles, packages, backpacks, mail, containers, rooms, buildings, areas, or other objects as directed and in a dangerous setting. In this role, you will provide a range of security services, which may include locating and identifying dangerous materials or contraband.

Role Responsibility:
Performs security patrols of designated areas with use of a canine
Watches for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
Searches vehicles, packages, backpacks, mail, containers, rooms, buildings, areas, or other objects as directed and in a dangerous setting
Performs security searches to locate and identifying dangerous materials or contraband
Permits authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits
Observes departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirement
Investigates and prepares reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Maintains written logs as required by post orders


The Ideal Candidate:
Education, Licenses and Certifications Required
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to pass any State-required training or other qualifications for licensing
Pass a State licensing test if driving a company-owned or client-provided vehicle

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required
Prior military police or civilian law enforcement K9 handler/unit experience

Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
Effective oral and written communication skills
Active listening skills
Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
Attention to detail

Other
Must be at least 21 years old or the minimum age required by the State, if higher
Demonstrated proficiency in English writing skills
Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
Must have evidence of ability to successfully partner with a working dog, understanding the psychology, behavioral patterns and Pavlovian theories
Must be willing and able to provide a home for canine partner when not at work
Ability to train and work with dogs in detecting accelerant and explosive devises in the examination of merchandise, vehicles, and passengers
Must have a working knowledge of recognition and proper handling of identified explosives and accelerant devices
Must have access to reliable transportation
Must not use illegal drugs. Must be able to pass a drug test with negative results (except when undergoing documented medical treatment).
Must submit to an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks if applicable
Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military
Upon acceptance of a job offer, must be able to pass the following:

Physical Requirements and Environment
Environment: Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold and heat

Major activity: Walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing

Physical efforts to carry out job duties: Standing, walking, and sitting. Minimal to no stooping or kneeling. Must be able to maneuver a minimum of 90 lbs.
