Job Description
Program Assistant, Security Assistance Monitor
The Center for International Policy seeks a program assistant for its Security Assistance Monitor program (www.securityassistance.org), an online platform that aims to facilitate and carry out assessment, oversight and transparency of U.S. military and security assistance around the world. Responsibilities include gathering information on U.S. security assistance, monitoring regional developments, managing web content, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program. The program assistant will work closely with and report to the Security Assistance Monitor research associate.
Key Responsibilities
Gather and catalogue information on U.S. security assistance worldwide.
Assist in day-to-day operations of Security Assistance Monitor.
Monitor regional security developments and U.S. security policy, write relevant blogs posts on recent developments and provide research assistance as needed.
Submit FOIA requests and oversee the data entry process and web updates, ensuring quality and accuracy of content. Upload relevant information from these reports to the database.
Manage and oversee web content, including daily updates of relevant articles, images, videos, policy events and hearings.
Maintain government reports database.
Assist with development of social media strategy and maintain social media accounts, mailing lists and media lists.
Coordinate and work closely with program interns.
Provide logistical support for special events.
Provide other program support as necessary.
Other Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in security studies, political/social sciences, international relations, or other related field and at least two years experience with a think tank, non-profit advocacy/policy or human rights group.
Knowledge of/interest in U.S. security policy and regional security issues is strongly desired.
Strong computer, web development, and internet skills. Knowledge of Drupal, HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL is a plus.
Highly developed analytical, research and writing skills, with ability to quickly present complex information in a clear and succinct way.
Proficiency in French, Russian and/or Arabic desired.
Ability to plan and work to meet deadlines and manage others to do the same.
Teamwork and attention to detail is essential.
Well-organized, with a positive attitude and the ability to work independently.
Salary: Mid to upper 30K. Includes full health benefits, paid vacation, dental insurance, life insurance and a retirement plan.
