Assistant Director, Physical Security

Job Description
The University of Central Florida is seeking a full-time security manager. The position will oversee physical security of the University including access control, security cameras, and other security systems. This individual will report directly to the Director of Security and Emergency Management. This new position is being implemented in order to standardize, develop, implement, and maintain security systems and initiatives, as well as to improve processes currently in place while developing a comprehensive University wide security program. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in security principles, physical security design, access control, creation and enforcement of security
policies, and the planning and managing of security systems.

The Assistant Director of Physical Security will have oversight of all security cameras and access control systems the University utilizes. The position will contribute towards physical security design, as well as developing and publishing written physical security design standards. Successful applicants will demonstrate an ability to provide technical expertise in implementing physical security standards and technologies to aid in the protection of University personnel and assets. The position’s duties will also include developing plans and security system specifications, identifying system integrators, coordinating installations, managing maintenance services, and evaluating and assessing developing security technology and functionality in the context of University requirements.

The selected candidate will also develop and review scopes of work, project bidding packages and project budgets, which will require understanding and adhering to detailed physical security design specifications and standards as well as interpreting architectural drawing and blue prints for the purpose of applying, reviewing, and approving University security design standards. This position will manage the security integration vendor to ensure completion of the security system integration. He or she will be responsible for coordinating the final test and acceptance of site security systems and ensuring physical security systems adherence to University policies and are optimally integrated.

Essential Job Functions will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Assume responsibility for university-wide access control program; which helps reduce asset losses and provides documented access and user card tracking and issuance’
2. Perform Database maintenance and hardware validations
3. Organize and implement training classes, review attendance, and follow up to ensure appropriate personnel are trained and retrained in a timely fashion
4. Provide multi-site supervision to university-wide programs.
5. Assist in preparing an annual budget that will maintain the efficient and effective operation of security technology
6. Ensure compliance with the Clery Act
7. Other duties as assigned

Other requirements for successful candidates include:
1. Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of physical security system design and technology requirements
2. Demonstrates experience working with security functions, processes, procedures, operations, and other compliance initiatives and creating and implementing practices and policies
3. Possesses strong knowledge of field installations, equipment maintenance, cost estimating, budget development, scheduling, contractor control and coordination
4. Demonstrates experience writing design specifications and standards, technical manuals and procedures
5. Possesses strong understanding of video analytics and demonstrated experience leveraging these to create efficiencies
6. Possesses strong communication and relationship building skills
7. Demonstrates capability of working on multiple high level projects simultaneously
8. Possesses experience with electronic security and surveillance systems to include proximity readers, biometrics, and industry trends
9. Demonstrates commitment to diversity
10. Possesses a thorough knowledge of Federal and State law, technical knowledge of electronic access systems to include magnetic, mortise and electric strike locking systems, and working knowledge of video surveillance systems to include IP addressable cameras and industry DVR mechanics
11. Demonstrates proficiency in Windows environment
12. Possesses excellent written and oral communication skill .

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience.
Additional Minimum Requirements

Preferences
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; preferably in criminal justice or a related field of study or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience in designing and managing the installation of physical security systems.

Selected candidate must have the following:
-valid Florida’s driver’s license
-acceptable eyesight (with/without correction aid)
-ASIS Certification PSP or CPP
-System Certification/Open Options
