Job Description: PURPOSE:
To ensure safety and security for tenants, guests, visitors, and employees by minimizing the possibility of a terrorist threat at Mall of America.

Essential Duties;  
•Patrol MOA property including mall common areas, service corridors and parking lots to provide protection for life and property both with and without a canine. This includes but is not limited to enforcing MOA policies, investigating and searching premises for suspicious materials with canine, enforcing state and local regulations, traffic direction, deterring criminal or destructive behavior by maintaining a highly visible, guest service-oriented presence; when necessary may stop, question and arrest.
•Maintain the mental and physical health of the canine while on premises which includes but not limited to: feeding, exercising, and training canine.
•Complete and maintain documentation of all certifications, training logs, diaries and paperwork related to position of canine handler.
•Keep dispatcher and supervisors informed of all pertinent incidents and activities according to department policies and guidelines.
•Write complete and accurate reports as required.
•Perform work with explosives training aids.
•Follow Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) regulations when utilizing explosives training aids.
•Cultivate and maintain relationships with outside Law Enforcement Explosives Ordinance detection Dog (EODD) teams.
•Ability to perform and fulfill all responsibilities of a Security Officer.
•Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the facility.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
•Perform various guest relations activities including but not limited to providing directions to guests, assisting in the location of lost persons, cars, etc.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
•Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
•Must possess a valid driver’s license.
•High School diploma or equivalent required, post-secondary education preferred.
•Must be able to pass clearance for accessing explosives materials through ATF.
•Proven ability to interact with a canine in a positive and controlled manner.
•Previous experience training and handling a canine.
•Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations; ability to accept direction.
•Prior completion of a canine handler training preferred.
•Working knowledge of State of Minnesota and United States Federal Criminal Justice system. Prior training in first aid and CPR.
•Must have good customer relations skills.
•Ability to work variable and/or rotating shifts, which include nights, weekends and holidays.
•Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including: frequent and sustained walking, occasional running, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crawling and frequent and extensive use of hands and arms.
•Ability to communicate effectively over the radio required.
•Six months of on-the-job experience as a security officer preferred.
•Maintain and adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties of position effectively (i.e. timely and effective response to emergency situations.)
