Position Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with all efforts to maintain the safety of NBA employees and events with a primary focus on NBA Security needs in new and emerging markets. This position will be based out of league office in Secuacus, New Jersey and will report directly to the Vice President for Global Events.

Major Responsibilities
Assist in performing assessments, analysis, and planning for NBA games and special events throughout our international markets; particularly countries which the NBA has not had a presence.
Develop security plans and oversee the implementation of these plans for all NBA domestic and international games and/or special events.
Utilizing open source databases to prepare reports for NBA Senior Management that provides an overview of current trends, threats, and risks associated with new, emerging, and/or current international markets.
Conduct internal investigations and interviews of league personnel, players, and teams.
Participate in the security planning and on-site management of security at selected special events including the NBA, WNBA, NBA Development League, All-Star Games, Global Games, basketball camps, NBA Draft, Play-offs, and other special events.
Responsible for liaising with additional NBA departments to facilitate and coordinate all efforts for international events. Primary focus on ensuring that best practices in proactive and preventative security measures and contingency planning are integrated into the overall planning process for international games and special events.
Keep the Senior Vice President/Chief Security Officer andVice President for Global Events, current on all international security issues that could impact NBA business; ensuring full integration of security planning within the international business planning process
Serve as a liaison with all relevant domestic and international law enforcement and national security agencies.
Other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Security Officer or league executives.


Required Experience & Knowledge

Required Skills/Knowledge:
10 years of previous relevant experience in international security operations. This may have been acquired through relevant law enforcement or equivalent international/ corporate security experience. A strong background with specific emphasis on international corporate security and event planning.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on being able to prepare clear, comprehensive and meaningful reports for NBA Senior Management relating to international security matters.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with various computer applications.
Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cohesively as part of a team effort.

Experience Needed:
Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement and/ or high level security related experience with at least 5 years working in an international capacity.
Prior experience with security and special event planning, threat assessment/risk analysis, and thorough grasp of crowd control/ management strategies.
Supervisory/management experience in previous positions is desirable.
Candidate must have strong skills utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel.

Educational Background Required
Bachelors degree from an accredited university required. Masters degree preferred.
Formal education/training in security related matters is a plus (i.e. ASIS CPP).
