Position Summary:
Chemonics seeks a manager to support our Global Safety and Security Department in developing security policies and procedures, training programs, risk advisory services, and timely emergency responses. The manager will oversee a robust safety and security program for Chemonics’ home-office employees by maintaining the warden training program and physical security technology, conducting internal investigations, ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA) requirements, and advising staff on risk. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.Responsibilities include:
• Support the department’s objectives to build organizational capacity for corporate safety and security policies, and develop and implement processes and tools to facilitate staff understanding of the policies
• Conduct threat and vulnerability assessments to ensure home-office safety and security readiness; identify, manage, and mitigate physical, informational, and operational security vulnerabilities
• Monitor and assess safety and security at the home office and advise home-office personnel of ongoing security threats and conditions
• Draft, review, and manage changes to the home-office emergency action plan; coordinate local emergency response with internal and external stakeholders
• Serve on the crisis management team and respond to local and international incidents
• Identify, manage, and train home-office floor wardens on emergency response procedures, such as emergency evacuations, medical emergencies, and active shooters
• Inspect and maintain home-office emergency rations, supplies, and equipment
• Develop and facilitate extensive companywide safety and security training; identify gaps between home-office and field security knowledge and adjust training methods accordingly
• Conduct in-depth investigations of alleged or actual security violations at the home office, such as workplace violence, threats, theft, intimidation, suspicious behavior, assault, and health risks
• Manage the home office’s closed caption television system, including maintenance and upgrades
• Ensure that the home office complies with applicable OSHA standards and regulations
• Interact with the home office’s property management company to ensure that necessary safety and security emergency resources are available and operational at all times
• Assist the director in ensuring that Chemonics’ projects and personnel maintain the proper safety and security procedures in accordance with USAID’s and Chemonics’ policies
• Maintain and expand technical knowledge of safety and security by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies and Chemonics’ practice networks
• Perform short-term technical assignments for projects or new business efforts
• Take on leadership roles in new business or regional/corporate initiatives
• Supervise and evaluate assigned staff, ensuring that they receive ongoing performance feedback and opportunities to develop key competency areas
• Manage staff, coordinate with supervisor, and serve as an acting director as necessary
• Foster an inclusive workplace environment that creates opportunities, serves others, builds trust, and exceeds expectations
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred in a relevant field
• Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation certification preferred
• Minimum three years of experience managing corporate safety and security protocols, security policy, and security management, with expertise in OSHA workplace safety requirements
• Experience in training development and implementation required
• Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage activities, budgets, and resources to produce strong results
• Experience conducting and coordinating in-depth safety and security investigations, including drafting detailed
incident reports that involve sensitive or confidential staff information
• Familiarity with the technical design, installation, implementation, and management of physical security systems
• Experience managing and coordinating emergency responses in an urban environment for approximately 300 to 500 staff; ability to exercise sound judgment and disseminate critical information during high-stress situations
• Experience managing an emergency operations center that supports corporate responses to major disasters, kidnappings, or terrorist attacks
• Experience managing a floor warden program, including classroom and full-scale training
• Familiarity with National Institute of Standards and Technology, International Building Code, National Fire Protection Association, and American Society for Industrial Security guidelines
• Ability to solve technical, managerial, and operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, experience, and knowledge
• Knowledge of and work experience with USAID preferred
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Experience living and working oversees preferred
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• English fluency required; fluency in a second language preferred
