Responsibilities:

Purpose and Summary of position:


The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for proactively creating and maintaining a safe and secure global environment by safeguarding the company’s employees, assets, information, and reputation. The CSO is a key advisor to the Celanese Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Strategic Operating Committee (SOC) on security and crisis management issues. The CSO oversees and coordinates security and crisis management efforts across the enterprise and identifies security initiatives and standards. This position reports directly to the SVP of Human Resources and acts as an advisor to the Board of Directors.

Key Activities/Responsibilities:
Liaise with multiple functions across the enterprise (IT, Legal, HR, Corporate Communications, EHS, Risk Management, Finance, etc.) to coordinate and mobilize all security and crisis management efforts to ensure the protection of employees, physical assets and information
Develops and implements global security policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, and risk controls; ensures standardization of security and crisis management programs throughout the company and company-wide compliance with all regulatory, mandated policies
Partners across multiple functions to identify potential enterprise risks and assist in the development of appropriate risk mitigation plans
Stays well informed of current events and geo-political developments to ensure the Company is fully prepared and equipped to protect its people and assets around the world. Provides regular up-to-date status reports to the Celanese Executive Leadership Team and Strategic Operating Committee.
Coordinates people & asset planning among the appropriate internal and external departments, ensuring regular status reports to the ELT and SOC
Overall responsibility for keeping the Celanese ELT and SOC informed of any potential events or current events that pose a risk to the enterprise, including an event briefing, steps being taken to address the event as well as actions to be taken by the ELT, SOC or other members of the organization
Leads the travel safety program worldwide including preparation of risk assessments and travel safety briefings for employees traveling to elevated risk destinations
Conducts awareness training across the organization
Oversees the approach, deployment, and execution of the most sensitive investigations, keeping the ELT and SOC members informed as needed
Develops and maintains relationships with government and non-government agencies that can assist in the acquisition of information and the protection of the company; maintains relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement, as well as international counterparts to include private sector counterparts worldwide
Work with external consultants as appropriate for independent security audits

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Criminal Justice or a related field required.
8-10 years professional private or public sector security management, enterprise-wide program management, policy development, emergency preparedness/crisis management or related experience.
Proven track record of success in corporate security operations in complex, multi-site global operating footprint; experience coordinating/working corporate security operations outside of the US.
Capacity to make critical under-pressure decisions in emergency situations; experience and ability to coordinate and/or direct multi-faceted, multi-agency response efforts in times of crisis
Demonstrated experience engaging a wide range of organizations whose activities affect the Company’s security and crisis management efforts; these include business, government and non-governmental organizations at the local, state, national and international levels.
Strong working knowledge of security principles, emergency preparedness operations and risk management
General knowledge/experience in risk/security auditing, risk/security management and legal/regulatory compliance.
Strong business ethics and integrity required; must have a keen sense for protecting company sensitive, confidential and proprietary information.

Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Advanced Degree or industry certification such as CPP, CFE, PSP preferred.
Prior experience working in law enforcement, intelligence and public service community and/or other organization engaged in security and crisis management
Experience presenting to Board Of Director audiences or at Shareholder Meetings a plus
