Overview:
The Explosive Detection Canine Instructor is responsible for providing green dog training and assessments of canines with previous training, while building upon and/or refining existing abilities. Duties will also include, but are not limited to, training all deployed personnel; managing time and resources for courses provided; imprinting dogs on required odors; maintaining all required documentation and training records; keeping SOC's Management team informed of all issues concerning the provided training; communicating effectively and professionally with clients; and representing SOC in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Responsibilities:
Conducts explosive detector canine and Canine Handler trainings. Conducts imprinting of new canines and assesses/progresses experienced canines. Instructs new and experienced Canine Handlers in accordance with National Odor Recognition Test and North American Police Working Dog Association standards. Ensures that all explosive detection teams are able to successfully certify to client standards. Solves Canine Handler and canine training problems as they develop.
Implements and instructs approved explosive detection curriculum for deploying Canine Handlers. Documents all canine and Canine Handler trainings in accordance with contract's Statement of Work. Prepares training schedules according to performance allowing for adjustments utilizing goal tending. Develops individual lesson plans in accordance with performance and ability levels of deploying explosive detection teams.
Develops individual health and exercise programs based on canines needs. Conducts quality of life and health inspections of all canines maintained at the Training Center.
Follows proper explosive handling and storage policies/procedures to ensure safety and mitigate aid contamination. Adheres to all local, state and federal laws/regulations.
Conducts canine selection assessments during the procurement process.
Assists in maintaining training sites and developing new training locations. Performs Kennel Technician duties, as required.
Qualifications:
Ability to clearly communicate and teach course requirements/objectives to trainees.
Ability to effectively demonstrate training techniques visually.
Knowledge of explosive composition and vapor weights.
Experience in odor cross contamination mitigation protocols.
Ability to train food and play reward canines.
High School Diploma
Minimum of 5 years’ experience
Law Enforcement/Military/Contracting Trainers Certification
Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance
