Job Description
This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Operations and administers and manages the security and safety programs for the Museum. This position is responsible for all security and safety of persons (employees, visitors, etc.) and the Museum’s galleries, artifacts, and multi-building complex. The primary responsibilities of this position include the following:
Develops and manages a full range of security, safety, and fire prevention and protection programs.
Chairs and administers the Museum’s Safety Program to include a monthly committee meeting and maintaining the currency
of the Museum’s Safety Manual.
Chairs and administers the Museum’s Emergency Management Team to include maintaining the currency of the Emergency Management Plan, coordinating the EMT meetings, conducting training exercises, and coordinating emergency operations as it unfolds.
Provides the leadership and supervision of the proprietary security team to include recruitment, training, equipping and discipline of security personnel.
Develops and manages the Security Department’s budget.
Reviews incident reports with the appropriate staff and recommends action to preclude further occurrences; investigates internal losses and reports such matters to the AVP of Operations.
The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience in security, risk management, law enforcement, or a related field, as well as knowledge of security, safety, loss prevention, fire protection, and risk management practices. Experience in cultural institutions is a plus. Finally, outstanding communication, organizational, and management skills are essential.
