ECS Weapons Based Course Instructors will perform classroom and
field laboratory support for high-risk training evolutions.

The ECS Weapons Based Course Instructor provides a varied range of duties associated with Navy High-Risk Training by delivering formalized training support in the areas of basic expeditionary combat skills to Navy personnel. The Expeditionary Combat Skills course is designed to provide eligible personnel with basic expeditionary combat skills training necessary to professionally and safely perform high risk security operations when assigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) or Naval Special Warfare (NSW) organizations, to include:

Provide classroom and laboratory instruction for Expeditionary Combat Skills courses
Deliver a wide variety of training topics, as well as provide instructional and safety support for live fire weapons training
Conduct training 8 hours a day, five days a week for the length of the course
Adhere to and maintain academic standards and provide remediation for students when required
Maintain an orderly and professional classroom, as well as prepare classrooms, labs, ranges, equipment and course material for instructional delivery of curriculum

ECS Weapons Based Course Instructors must:
Meet the basic requirements to hold a security clearance
Have one (or more) of the following qualifications:
Navy NEC 9502 (Instructor), or
Navy NEC 9518 (Naval Leadership Development Program (NAVLEAD) Instructor, or
Graduate of one of the following courses of instruction:
Instructional Delivery Continuum (IDC) Journeyman Instructor Training (JIT) (A-012-0077)
Instructional Delivery Continuum (IDC) Journeyman Instructor Training (JIT) Mobile Training Team (A-012-1011)
Naval Leadership Facilitator (P-012-0045)
Facilitator Training Course (P-012-0075)
Nuclear Instruction Qualifications (NFAS) (A-661-0108)
Nuclear Instruction Qualifications (NNPS) (A-661-0109)
Other DoD Service designation (or equivalency) upon approval of the CENSECFOR DOT, or
Completion of a civilian (or commercial) formal course of instruction which has been evaluated and certified as a JIT equivalency by the Naval Education and Training Command
Successfully complete the Core Unique Instructor Training (CUIT) certification process
Maintain professional currency within their field of expertise
Pass a medical screening
Pass a psychological screening
Pass initial and periodic urinalysis screening
Possess a current certification in Basic First Aid from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, American Safety and Health Institute, or other locally available means
Possess a current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, American Safety and Health Institute, or other locally available means
Have a minimum of two (2) years documented tactical military operational experience involving:
Combat Lifesaving
Land Navigation
Tactical Communications
Defensive Measures
Convoy Operations
Small Arms
Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)
Patrolling
Mission Planning
Basic Combat Fundamentals
CBRN Procedures
Have performed in an instructor capacity within the previous two (2) years
Have knowledge of basic and advanced training techniques
Have knowledge of computer technology application as it applies to instructional presentation and the use of classroom training aids
Possess/be capable of demonstrating modern dynamic combat shooting skills
Possess above average communication skills and the ability to comprehend both verbal and written instructions.
Be familiar with the M9 Service Pistol and M4 Carbine and capable of achieving a “Sharpshooter” qualification score with either weapon
Be personally capable of performing all training evolutions including the ability to effectively complete weapons qualifications in the standing, kneeling and prone positions
Be able to ascend or descend ladders, go through narrow passageways, and be free of any abnormal fear of heights
Re-qualify at least every 180 days on the courses of fire and with the type of weapons they instruct
Complete the applicable Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS) for Line Coach (Small Arms)
Possess Small Arms Instructor qualification IAW paragraph 11 of OPNAVINST 3591.1F – Small Arms Training and Qualification.
