Summary:
The Range Instructor is primarily responsible to develop and instruct personnel in firearms, less-lethal weapons, automated judgmental shooting drills, night firing, shoot-house, force-on-force scenarios and
Active Shooter responses. The Range Instructor ensures all range training is in compliance with federal, state, local, NASA and KSC policies, procedures and regulations.

· Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies, and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.
· Ensures all firearms assigned to Security Services are in operational condition.
· Provide instruction for firearms, less-lethal weapons, automated judgmental shooting drills, night firing, shoot-house, force-on-force scenarios, and “Active Shooter” responses.
· Deliver training classes or develop training plans for other security courses, as necessary, including the requirements of the Federal Magistrate Program, defensive tactics, the use of various forms of intermediate weapons, and other specialized equipment.
· Prepares and executes training drills and scenarios designed to evaluate the effectiveness of security personnel and procedures.
· Must be able to provide support to NASA Protective Service Training Academy, including travel to other NASA Centers
· Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.
· Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Supervision: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Must successfully complete a pre employment physical agility test (PAT) and annually thereafter as prescribed by the government.

Must successfully complete a pre-employment mile run in ten minutes or under.

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:
· Associate’s degree preferably in a Law Enforcement/Security related field and five years of Security or Law Enforcement experience in the military or civilian police, three years of which must be in training.
· Knowledge of training aids and devices and skill sufficient to review and evaluate existing audiovisual aids to identify those materials that will best accomplish the training objectives.
· Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices and techniques of specialty areas to design, evaluate, revise, or develop training systems, materials, aids, methods, training plans, etc.
· Must have a comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement concepts, techniques, and security procedures. In addition, must maintain a thorough knowledge of the state-of-the-art police methods and practices and incorporate this knowledge into the training curriculum. This requires a diversified knowledge of law enforcement/security operations, including drug and substance abuse control, property security, terrorist acts, sabotage and espionage prevention.
· Must have completed an Instructor Techniques Course or equivalent instructor training course approved by the NASA Office of Protective Services.
· Must have sufficient knowledge of the principles and techniques of education and training to allow continual evaluation, revision, and development of a training program.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
· Must successfully complete all training and have obtained all required permits, licenses, certifications and security/medical clearances for the site.
· Excellent interpersonal skills.
· Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Computer Skills:

· Skill in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment.
· Must have proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance:
· Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
· Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start.
· Complete a general instructor course and be certified by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or NASA determined equivalent.
· Complete a NASA Protective Service Training Academy basic course of instruction.
· Complete use of force, defensive tactics and/or firearms instructor certification course (as applicable) and be certified by FLETC, or NASA determined equivalent and maintain a current certificate for each instructor techniques courses.
· Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons.
· Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications.
· Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.
