Responsibilities
K2 Solutions is seeking an experienced canine trainer with demonstrated skills in traditional (on-leash) multi-purpose detection dog training. Responsibilities include conducting basic to advanced level detection, apprehension, obedience, article, building search, agility training and sustainment.
Requirements:
-Demonstrated ability to train, imprint and evaluate multiple breeds of working canines under a variety of certification authority and standards including the DoJ National Odor Recognition Test
-Extensive understanding and ability to apply canine behavior shaping techniques, canine psychology (relating to prey, retrieve, and hunt drives) and principals of conditioning (positive and negative / reinforcement as related to Law Enforcement Canines)
-Ability to apply breed specific behavior traits in order to improve the canine’s learning through both negative and positive reinforcement training methods
-Documented and proven experience as an instructor for basic to advanced level curriculums to multidiscipline and diverse audiences. Must have a documented or accredited formal academy or school.
-Proven performance within a fast paced, high stress organization which required application of technical tasks while demonstrating leadership traits to subordinates, peers and superiors
-Must be able to recognize K-9 diseases, be familiar with hygiene requirements and know the physical condition of the dog
-Proven and documented experience with maintaining working dog training records
-Effective oral and written communication skills along with strong organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to manage time and multiple priorities
-Possess a functional understanding of applicable safety regulations for the use, transport, and storage of explosive training aids, particularly as it relates to canine training
-Must be DoT certified, or able to obtain certification
-Accredited decoy certification on the national level is preferred
-In-depth knowledge on the application of scent picture theories directly related to canine imprinting and training
-No less than 10 years of recent documented performance in canine training
Experience and Education:Physical Requirements:
-Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 100 lbs.
-Requires standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions.
-Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling throughout the work day.
-Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
