Position Summary/Purpose:The primary focus of this position is to develop security plans and programs for NiSource, including severe incident management and response, threat assessment and management, law enforcement liaison, workforce/executive protection, infrastructure protection and investigation management.This position also provides support and backup coverage to other members of the Corporate Security Team.

Principal Responsibilities:
Provides security guidance and counsel to NiSource leaders and employees. This includes recommending appropriate security measures, techniques, and methods to enhance the protection of business activities, personnel, facilities and operations across the business.
Keeps the Director, Corporate Security advised of current or changes to the security environment, which may impact operations.
Develops business specific security plans, which incorporate corporate security guidance and integrate security strategy into the business. Security plans are to include a schedule, which is regularly reviewed and updated.
Assists management in the development of applicable security policies and procedures that translate business security plans into employees daily activities and sound practices.
Regularly assesses assigned operations, using established vulnerability methodologies to determine potential exposure and recommend appropriate security measures to mitigate risk.
Develops investigative strategy, leads investigations and maintains the highest level of discretion while dealing with sensitive information.
Provides business and facilities management leaders guidance and oversight on all security guard, and security services.
Develops and maintains a liaison and working relationship with appropriate state and local law enforcement and security agencies.
Monitors intelligence sources and security threats to business operations. Establishes and maintains protocols for communicating threat information to appropriate business and functional leaders across NiSource#39;s business operations.
Assembles and relays timely security incident reports and observations from across operating area to the Director, Corporate Security.
Collects and maintains security incident data for trend analysis and recommends corrective action as well as Lessons Learned.
Develops and conducts appropriate security training. Communicates security awareness messages to ensure management and employees understand how to respond to security incidents and activate security plans.
Develops initiatives to ensure management has effective relationships with all levels of law enforcement and first responders in their respective jurisdictions.
Coordinates special employee, facility, or functional protection assessments and details.
Develops strong relationships with NiSource#39;s Legal, Human Resources and Communications functions and teams.
Leads realistic drills and exercises to gauge effectiveness of security programs. Performs timely after action reviews (AARs) with participants to share successes and discuss failures. Modifies security plans as appropriate.
Performsadvanced threat assessment and actively manages potentially violent situations.
Serves as an integral member of the Corporate Security Team. Provides backup and support to other members of the team as needed.
Coaches, develops and manages a small team of Security Leads.
Bachelor#39;s degree or equivalent work experience
8 or more years experience with a major law enforcement, military, intelligence, public or private sector security organization
Utility industry experience is a plus
The following certifications are preferred: CPP, PSP, PCI, CFE or CISSP
Excellent team and consensus building skills
Ability to positively influence NiSource employees, peers and management
Strong personal initiative, proven decision-making ability, integrity, confidentiality
Proven leadership skills, specifically the ability to manage, motivate, coach and hold employees accountable in a positive manner
Proven interview and investigative skills
Extensive knowledge of asset protection, security investigations, operations, systems, and techniques
Superior oral, written, presentation and communication skills
Strong customer service and service delivery orientation
Mental Physical Requirements (such as exposure to risk in the work environment, travel, deadlines, peak times, etc):Must be available to respond as needed on a 24/7 basis; available after hours, during weekends and holidays as needed. Must be able to work outdoors and commute to a variety of field operations that may include periods of overnight travel (20%-40%). Has to be able to handle and manage high levels of psychological and physical stress over periods of time.
