AWG Firearms Technology and Optics Subject Matter Expert

ITA currently recruiting for Firearms Technology and Optics SME opportunity located at Fort Meade, MD.  This is a contingent opportunity.


Responsibilities:

Providing instruction to AWG members on small arms related topics during approximately 30 training sessions annually (unit on a monthly basis and those who deploy on a quarterly basis).
Providing support to scheduled AWG ranges at Fort Meade, MD approximately 50 times a year as well as support to individuals firing in the AWG shooting trailer expending over 50,000 rounds of ammunition each year.
Performing repairs and test fire firearms and firearms related equipment to include fitting/gauging barrels, adjusting headspace, hand-fitting parts, and adjusting sights. (800 weapons at Ft. Meade and approximately 150 weapons at Fort A.P. Hill).

Performing routine scheduled and unscheduled sustainment-level weapon maintenance.
Performing technical and mechanical analysis or evaluation of newly developed or experimental weapons, body armor, and other military equipment, facilities and makes recommendations to AWG Government personnel.
Applying mathematical formulas to compute ballistic performance grafts.
Researching and reviewing manuals, articles, guidelines, blueprints, sketches, and professional/technical publications to remain professionally proficient.
Making recommendations to AWG Government personnel on arms room operation procedures, future procurements, certification, and management and weapon issues for compliance IAW AR 385-5, TRADOC 350-8, and TRADOC 385-2.
ICW AWG Government personnel, assisting in ammunition draw, storage, and issue and transportation for training and assessment courses.
Traveling to various CONUS and OCONUS locations (less than 25%).
Perform Sensitive Item Inventory one (1) week per month.

Qualifications:

TS/SCI security clearance
At least five years of experience in small arms maintenance
Obtain new certifications based on current and emerging non-standard weapons systems and maintain current Armorers Certificates for existing weapons systems.
