Overview:
Under guidance of Explosive Detection Canine Instructor(s) the incumbent provides green dog imprint training and assessments of previously trained rotating canines while building upon and/or refining their existing abilities; responsible for further development of canines that are in training awaiting pairing, including imprinting on required odors. Duties also include, but are not limited to, kennel maintenance and assistance with records management for all relevant training documents. The incumbent is expected to keep Canine Instructors and/or Management team abreast of all issues concerning canines and provided training, communicating effectively and professionally with all stakeholders and representing SOC in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Responsibilities:
Follows daily training curriculum as set forth by Canine Instructor(s) conducting odor imprinting of new canines, assessing previously trained canines and building upon and/or refining canines' existing abilities; informs Canine Instructor(s) of all canine training problems as they develop and implements remedial actions.
Conducts quality of life and health inspections of all canines maintained at the Training Center. Assesses, socializes and exercises canines following individual health and exercise programs based on canines' needs.
Assists Canine Instructors with maintaining all canine training records and relevant supporting documentation.
Handles explosives closely adhering to established handling and storage policies/procedures to ensure safety and mitigate aid contamination.
Constructs fresh distractor odor samples as required.
Performs Kennel Technician tasks and other duties, as required.
Qualifications:
Ability to exploit canine pack mentality in order to gain rapport, trust and bond. Clearly communicate and compassionately work with new canines.
Ability to effectively demonstrate training techniques (movements) visually and verbally.
Basic knowledge of explosive composition and vapor weights.
Experience/knowledge in proper handling of explosive compounds to include cross contamination mitigation protocols, spill clean-up, security and accountability.
Ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders.
High School Diploma
Minimum of 2 years’ canine handling experience
Law Enforcement/Military/Contracting Trainers Certification preferred
Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance
