Overview of position: Provides requisite knowledge, as well as simulated and clinical training in various aspects of emergency, nursing, and primary care. Subjects include medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, Basic Life Support (BLS), Emergency Medical Technician-Basic curricula, as well as various aspects of nursing and primary patient care.
Outcome-based practice and safety techniques are emphasized throughout the program. The Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program provides enlisted basic knowledge of emergency medicine and nursing care. Provide education and training to prepare service members to function as medical technicians in fixed and non-fixed medical facilities, performing duties to provide quality emergency, nursing and primary care procedures. Provide service members with education and training required to comprehend, evaluate and apply information relevant to the role of the Basic Medical Technician. Provide education and training to service members to make them technically proficient in skills required to fulfill the role of a Basic Medical Technician. All courses must be completed in order for service members to pass the program. Phase 1 consists of knowledge and skills training conducted at the Medical Education and Training Center (METC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Provide education and training through lectures, hands-on instruction and clinical practice, guided discussions, demonstrations, e-learning materials, simulations, and skills laboratory practices. Practical exercises, computerized and written examinations are used to assess student knowledge and skills.
Education requirements: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Knowledge of instructional techniques and training methodologies in order to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise training programs. Must have completed, or be able to complete, the Navy Journeyman Instructor Training Course (NJIT) or the Basic Instructor Course (BIC) other service equivalent instructor training course within 30 days of hire or as soon as training seats become available. A candidate, who meets all the requirements except the Navy Journeyman Instructor Training course, maybe scheduled to attend the next available course. Since NJIT course is unique to the Government, the NJIT course will be offered at no expense. Experience utilizing a variety of instructional technologies, training equipment, and teaching methods to incorporate the principles of adult learning into teaching practices.
Security requirements: __National Agency Check, Local Agency Check and Local Credit Check (NACLC) investigation at a minimum. Local Agency Check and Local Credit Check must be submitted and results received prior to commencement of work
