Security And Ground Safety Director

Job Description
The Director of Security and Ground Safety reports directly to the Managing Director (MD) of Safety for American Eagle Airlines, Inc. The Director is responsible for a team of 7 employees, supporting 4 business areas:
Ground Safety: Interacts with Vice Presidents and Regional MDs for the Company and Other Airlines
through our Ground Handling operations to investigate employee injuries/aircraft damage and develops mitigation and controls for prevention. Through his/her team, compiles employee injury/aircraft damage statistics and produces reports for the MD of Safety for presentation to senior leadership. Investigates Hotline/Ethics complaints and coordinates onsite investigations. Directs and is responsible for maintaining a Safety/OSHA audit schedule to reach every station by the end of the year.
Airline Security: As the airline’s Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator (AOSC), the director is responsible for coordinating any security issues with the TSA and other law enforcement agencies. Including, but not limited to, revising and maintaining company Security Manual, aircraft security inspection checklist, researching Letter of Investigation (LOIs) and supporting ground handling operations and the Manager of Ground Security.
Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Waste program: Manages a group of Environmental Specialists responsible for Hazardous Waste disposal and control at heavy maintenance bases. Ensures awareness and compliance by all departments with DOT and FAA Regulations concerning the packaging, shipment, acceptance or denial for transport and/or disposal of Hazardous Materials. Establishes policies and procedures regarding Hazardous Materials for all departments including reviewing and approving the Hazmat training programs for all workgroups. Audits Maintenance and Field locations which deal with Dangerous Goods (DG) to ensure compliance. Investigates DG incidents and develops measures to prevent reoccurrence. Acts as liaison between the Company and the FAA for all DG issues and incidents. Prepares responses to Letters of Investigation pertaining to Dangerous Goods. Maintenance of DOT Competent Authority Approval, Exception and Exemption Letters.
Emergency Preparedness: Responsible for maintaining the Station Emergency Procedures Manual and management/coordination of the Company’s Corporate Emergency Response Plans including individual departmental activities and checklists. Coordinates closely with members of AA Emergency Response Department to ensure AE emergency preparedness efforts are standardized throughout both companies. Responsible for station audits and assessments to evaluate emergency preparedness and facilitates airport and airline emergency drills. Facilitates General Manager Emergency Response Workshops and Station Support Team Preparedness Workshops with the AA CARE/Emergency Response Department. Coordinates with the AA CARE/Emergency Response Department on issues relating to WebEOC (corporate emergency response management software program).

Job Requirements
Candidates must be able to concurrently manage multiple areas of responsibility. Must be able to review work product of assigned area(s) and recommend changes to improve productivity and efficiency.

Position requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or 3-5 years commensurate experience
Previous working experience in Airline Field Services (operations) or Airline Ground Handling
Strong knowledge of airline safety procedures and policies
Supervisory/managerial experience
Ability to travel up to 25%; must be able to travel to Mexico and Canada
Possess the legal right to work in the United States
Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language

Position preferences.
MBA/Master’s Degree
OSHA 30 Hour Training
Knowledge of 49 CFR Dangerous Goods Shipping
Proven work experience building constructive and effective relationships with internal and external customers
Possess a high level of organizational and analytical skills
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Ability to work with all levels of management

Additional Position Details
Candidate must be able to obtain any necessary security clearances if required for position
If applicable to the position, a candidate must fulfill a fingerprint-based criminal background check to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA); candidates must also be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US customs security badges, if applicable
Federal law requires American Eagle to determine an applicant’s history of Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and/or alcohol violation(s) or refusal(s) to test before hiring him/her into a safety-sensitive position; this position may be subject to DOT testing .
