Job Description:
Job Statement of Duties: This position reports directly to the Vice President of Human Resources.  The Director of Security is a senior level position responsible for providing leadership, guidance and direction for the Electric Boat Security, Fire Department and Flight Operations organizations. The Director is responsible to manage day to day activities and ensure compliance with all programmatic, regulatory, legal and contractual requirements for all three areas.

Functional Responsibilities:
  1.  Oversee and manage all EB (Groton and QP) Security and Fire Department (routine and emergency) activities and responsibilities, including: Uniformed Security operations, Security Compliance and contract administration, investigations, and special/international programs.
  2.  Respond to the needs of external agencies and coordinate with and support all EB & GD Corporate Office/internal organizations.
  3.  Develop and maintain relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement leadership and Government officials including auditors and regulators (DSS and NAVSEA, Naval Reactors and SupShip, etc.).
  4.  Responsible for ensuring that individuals in all three areas are properly equipped and trained to perform in such a way, as to fully support and compliment the operational, schedule, strategic and business objectives of the company.
  5.  Responsible to ensure that the organizations maintain a record of satisfactory compliance in the areas of physical and IT/Network infrastructure security, Security and Contracts Administration, National Industrial Security Program, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, FAA Regulations and all local, state and federal laws.
  6.  Capable of functioning to the optimal level under high stress/ emergency situations.  In this regard the Director must assume a leadership role in managing serious threats or events involving risk of injury and/or loss of life, fire, damage and/or destruction of property or the penetration of physical or network infrastructure.
  7. Oversee innovation and continuous improvement efforts within the organization.
  8. Assist with succession planning and professional development within the organization.
  9. Improve workforce capabilities by identifying needed training and development.
  10. Establish and communicate work expectations; assess overall workforce performance and productivity; and positively motivate the workforce.
  11. Manage performance, reinforce desired workforce values and behaviors.
Required Education/Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree/advanced degree preferred
  • 10 years’ experience in the DoD Defense Industrial Security Program (DISP) and Plant Protection
  • Minimum 5 years of Managerial Experience
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Established/strong relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, NAVSEA, Naval Reactors and SupShip
  • Strong reputation of performance, credibility and leadership
  • Working knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating manual (NISPOM)
  • TOP SECRET SSBI clearance
Unique/Additional Requirements:
Must be successful in developing and maintaining relationships of trust and integrity with internal (EB) and external (DoD, DSS, NAVSEA, SupShip, NCIS, NR, GD Corporate) customers and stakeholders.

Must exercise excellent judgment when determining the actions, policies and procedures the Security organization will take to contribute to the success of the business and performance on contracts.

Must be a proven leader and capable of representing the company as the senior Security official during the planning and execution of key company events including Christenings, Open Houses, Keel Laying’s and all other events requiring liaison and coordination with internal EB organizations and external (local, state and federal) law enforcement and first responder organizations.

Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication capabilities including the ability to clearly, accurately and authoritatively interact and communicate under even the most stressful emergent situations and be capable of preparing and delivering formal presentations to senior EB and DoD officials.
