Position Summary: The SECURITY SPECIALIST should have working knowledge of processing personnel clearances with both DoD and DoS, providing Security briefings, preparing visit requests, and provide a wide variety of clerical duties in the administration of the NISPOM.
Essential Functions:
Initiate, prepare, process and coordinate all appropriate documentation relating to the initial, transfer, reciprocity and termination of personnel security clearance investigations, re-investigations and positions of public trust.
Quality control specialist for personnel security (suitability) applications, ensuring all packages are properly completed and ensuring any required/associated documentation is included.
Perform and/or support coordination of security briefing schedule to include new hire, initial, closed area, foreign travel, exit briefings, etc.
Communicate security policies and procedures through meetings, written documentation, and verbal presentations.
Accurately maintain security files, reports, and correspondence as required by DSS and other customer/regulatory agencies.
Administer and make recommendations for improvements on security programs and procedures for classified or proprietary materials, documents and equipment.
Support daily operations of the Security Department.
Additional duties as assigned by the FSO.
Non-Essential Functions:
Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the customer/client
Crucial Requirements and Abilities:
Minimum of two to five years’ experience working in industrial security, personnel security desired.
Current DOD or DOS SECRET Clearance with an SSBI.
Experience with the State Department PCL processing preferred.
Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products.
Well versed in all areas of the NISPOM.
Travel: Yes, 25% of the time
Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The employee will work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Discrete, with ability to handle and protect highly sensitive personnel/security data.
Experience with fingerprinting is desired.
Knowledge of PCL and Public Trust processing with DoD and DoS.
Proficiency with the JPAS and e-QIP systems.
Proficient with a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project), and Outlook.
Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
Ability to travel as requested or required based on organizational needs and to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.Excellent written and verbal communications skills, along with strong decision making ability and attention to detail are equally important.
