EOD Technician

Employer: Kwajalein Range Services
Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands
Duties:
  • Responds to Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC), munition debris, Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), and material potentially presenting an Explosive, Chemical, and/or Radiological Hazard.
  • Often wears PPE in a high humidity, high temperature climate and on occasion will be required to wear a Bomb Suit weighing more than 70 lbs.
  • Wears protective mask (full face respirator or SCBA) as needed.
  • Prepares required Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) munitions response reports, develops risk assessments for hazardous operations and updates operation plans as needed.
  • Supervises and performs the on-site demilitarization of MEC to include the handling of explosives and other hazardous materials.
  • Conducts UXO awareness classes to new-hire employees, construction personnel, law enforcement/security officers, fire fighters, school age children, and Marshallese residents on non-USAG-KA leased islands.
  • Provides support to Department of Defense (DoD) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams when necessary.
  • Prepares and releases radar calibration spheres in support of range operations.
  • Issues, receives and transports Ammunition & Explosives (AA&E) to and from explosive storage facilities.
  • Will be required to travel by air (Fairchild Metro III airplane / UH-72 helicopter) or sea vessel in order to support other islands of the atoll.
Job Skills & Knowledge Requirements: 
Required: 
  • Physical ability to put on and wear the Med-Eng® M8 Bomb Suit (size medium or large), pass DOT physical, a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), and on occasion wear a commercial-style respirator and suit.
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds and traverse uneven terrain.
  • Working knowledge of World War II era munitions and disposal techniques and familiarity with explosive, chemical and nuclear material hazards.
  • Working knowledge of DoD and U.S. Army regulations and procedures regarding security, storage, issue, and receipt of A&E.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Previous experience in Ordnance and Munition response at other ranges.
  • Ability to effectively operate Schonstedt GA-52Cx Magnetic Locator and Whites XLT Metal Detector, Mini Andros II, and SAIC RTR-4 X-ray system.
  • Previous experience with ammunition management/supply operations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.EXPERIENCE (Years):
    Required: 
  • 8 years experience as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician; military or civilian.
Desired:
  • 12 years experience as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician; military or civilian.
Education
Required: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Military EOD Training program or Recognized equivalent.
Desired: 
  • NAVSCOL EOD.
  • Current in 8 hour OSHA HAZWOPER refresher and CPR training.
  • IED Training, Ammunition Supply Familiarization.
  • Leadership training and experience.
Other Special Qualifications:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is accompanied.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Garrison-Kwajalein Atoll.
  • You and your authorized dependents, if any, traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
  • U.S. DoD Top Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
